Submission Guidelines for Prospective Authors

We appreciate our authors, and we will enjoy reviewing your submission to see if we might work together. Please send all submissions via email to Acquisitions Editor, Jennifer Holder, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We will only consider proposals saved as a .doc file or .pdf. Please include the words "Book Submission" in your email.

In an effort to reduce the amount of paper used in a tree-dependent industry, we do not accept submissions by snail mail.

Fiction

While it is always great to take a look at an entire manuscript, if the novel is in progress you can send the first three chapters.

Be sure to attach a synopsis and bio of yourself, and in your cover letter tell us a bit about who your audience is.

Nonfiction

For memoirs and other narrative nonfiction like biographies or travel accounts, if possible please send the entire manuscript.

Everything else requires a book proposal and sample chapters, with all the information below included:

  • your current contact information, including full name, mailing address, phone numbers and email address.
  • an overview of the book and your vision for it
  • a biography of your personal and professional pursuits that tells us why you are the best person to write the book
  • table of contents and the first two chapters of the book, as we need to develop a strong feel for the manuscript's opening and your writing
  • a description of your target audience and books that have already been published that you feel reach a similar audience
  • an honest assessment of competing titles, and what you feel makes your book unique.
  • a detailed plan for your promotional activity
  • an estimate of the length of the manuscript in 12 point type, double-spaced on 8 1/2 by 11 pages
  • any timing considerations you have in mind, and if the manuscript is not completed, an approximate completion date.

We consider each and every submission we receive. Due to the volume of submissions, allow up to three months for a response. Please be patient — we take great care during our review process.

We sincerely appreciate your interest in publishing with us.
